如使用Microsoft Outlook收取電子郵件的常用標準協定有IMAP與POP兩種。
If users received emails for Microsoft Outlook, there are two common types of IMAP and POP protocols.

Hosting Speed recommends users to use IMAP protocol for receiving emails. The reasons are as follows:
IMAP優勢 The Advantage of IMAP：
1. 開啟信箱時，只是下載信頭（message headers）部分而已，故不會佔用PC端的硬碟空間。
When open the mailbox, it only downloads the message headers, so these wouldn't occupy the hard disk space of PC Port.
2. 可以從數個不同的地點連線，所讀取的信件仍為同一份置於伺服器上的信箱。
It can connect from several different locations, and the viewed emails are still in the same mailbox on the server.
3. 不必一直收信，信箱會自動更新。當網路速度受限時，performance 會較POP server好，因為只是下載信頭部分而已。
As mailbox would automatically update, it doesn't need to receive emails every time. When the internet speed is limited, the IMAP performance is better than POP because it only downloads the message headers.
4. 以檔案夾（folder）的方式管理信件較方便。
It is convenient to manage emails by folders.
POP缺點 The disadvantage of POP：
1. 通常開啟信箱之後，信件即全部被下載儲存於PC上，佔用PC上的硬碟空間；而伺服器上並不
保留信件備份，以免信件一直累積，造成伺服器上的信箱爆滿。因此需自行指定是否需要儲存信
件於伺服器上。
After opened mailbox, all emails usually would be downloaded to PC, which occupied the hard disk space on the PC. Also, the server doesn't keep the email backup because the emails avoid to be accumulated, and avoid the server mailbox from getting full. Thus, users need to decide whether emails save to the server or not.
2. 從不同的地點連線時，無法使各地點所擁有的信箱均一致同步，出現在(A)PC上的信件，便不再
出現於(B)PC上；因此當連線時，為了要達到同步化，便會一再下載信件，導致信件重複出現。
When connected from the different locations, the mailboxes aren't able to be synchronized at each location. For example, email appears on the PC (A) but this email doesn't appear on the PC (B). Therefore, to achieve the synchronization when connected, emails are repeatedly downloaded, so emails appeared repeatedly.
3. 必須手動收信，信箱不會自動更新。當網路速度受限時，郵件傳輸表現則會較差。
Since mailbox wouldn't be updated automatically, all emails must be received manually. When the internet speed is limited, the POP performance is poor.
4. 從不同的地點連線時，無法讀取到所有的檔案夾，因此較難管理。
When connected to the different of location, it can't read all the folders, and this management is poor.
